Hurriyat leader and chief cleric of Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq underscored that dialogue, understanding, and compassion are key to fostering peace and reconciliation as a delegation of the Concerned Citizens’ Group (CCG) led by former union minister Yashwant Sinha called on him in Srinagar on Saturday.

The delegation, consisting also of Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak (Retd), senior journalist Bharat Bhushan, and social activist Sushobha Barve, met Mirwaiz at his residence.

During the interaction, the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir and matters of public concern were discussed. The conversation also touched upon issues such as the need for sustained engagement, addressing humanitarian aspects, including the situation of political detainees, and the importance of easing public hardships, Mirwaiz said.

Mirwaiz appreciated the delegation’s continued interest in Kashmir and emphasized that dialogue, understanding, and compassion are key to fostering peace and reconciliation.

Both sides agreed that continued communication and outreach are vital to building trust and creating an environment of stability and hope.

The Sinha-led delegation is in Srinagar meeting leaders of different political parties and the civil society to take stock of the ground situation in the valley.

The delegation also met the Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra and held deliberations on the prevailing situation in the Union Territory and broader regional developments.

Karra was accompanied by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, and party MLA Nizamuddin Bhat during the meeting.

The discussions centred on political, social, and economic issues confronting Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the overall scenario in the subcontinent. Both sides exchanged views on the importance of dialogue, peace-building measures, and inclusive engagement for the region’s stability.
